Two–on–Two?
The Game Rating System

FGN again lives up to its promise to provide the most unique gaming–related content available! Gamers, prepare yourselves for the first Two–on–Two monthly column based on the PlayStation 2 game console, a sort of Siskel and Ebert Meet He Said, She Said. Each month, Kirk and Joelle will hand pick’ em, play ’em and rate ’em, with two brief paragraphs on the good, the bad and the ugly of the titles they’ll review.

Why are these two qualified to undertake such exams? They possess years of gaming expertise from their diverse backgrounds, and did I mention that they are married? Kirk is an avid gamer, taking on the likes of RPGs, Shooters, Fighters, Strategy Games, and especially games that have a new twist. His latest passions include Diablo II and he’s anxiously waiting for both Tribes 2 and Black and White to be released for the PC. Kirk has grown up around games and he’s written for several computer/game publications, including Dragon magazine for more than seven–years, writing close to 400 columns and reviews. His experience also includes working at two major game publishers for eight–years.

The other reviewer, Joelle, is a marketing guru in the electronic entertainment industry who finds herself steering more towards your old school arcade–style gaming such as Q–bert, Frogger and Pac–Man — ring any bells? She is also a BIG — no HUGE — fan of Puzzles, Driving and Fighting games.

How will these two choose their titles each month? With two games to review, Kirk and Joelle will each select a game that, at least on the cover, entices them. Sorta just like how many consumers buy games, based on the intrigue of package graphics! Image how intriguing this column will be, given their diverse backgrounds and the types of games they each like to play.

Because of the variety of titles, this column will definitely offer something for everyone. Most reviews elsewhere are rather one–sided and primarily conducted by males. Two–on–Two offers not one, but two opinions, giving you the man’s and the woman’s perspective, which will also serve as a great way for couples to find games that they can play together (or apart).

Also, since we all hated grades in school, Kirk and Joelle will award each game two different rating scores — a thumbs up or down, plus a number. These ratings are certain to answer your three basic questions when choosing a new game.

Q: Do the pros outweigh the cons?
A: FGN artThumbs Up — A Must Have!
    FGN artThumbs Down — Forget About It!

Q: Can I play this game with my significant other? (And you’d better consider this if you plan to blow $300+ on your new PS2.)
A: The Clash Test
Two Thumbs Up = Yes
Two Thumbs Down or One Thumb Up/One Thumb Down = No (Unless you want to sleep outside.)

Q: Is it really worth the going price?
A: Refer to the Number Scale
1 = They Call This A Game?
2 = Wait for Kmart’s Blue Light Special
3 = Ok, It’s Playable (Yawn)
4 = Great Game, Less Filling
5 = Supremo, Optimo, When’s The Sequel?

All for 2 and Two for all!
